Use Your HSA, FSA Benefits to Buy Period-Care Products

Period-care is recognized as health care now by the U.S. With language added into the CARES Act 2020, period-care products can now be reimbursed or purchased with and HSA or FSA account.

IRS Publication 969 states:

“The CARES Act also modifies the rules that apply to various tax-advantaged accounts (HSA’s, Archer MSAs, Health FSAs, and HRAs) so that additional items are “qualified medical expenses” that may be reimbursed from those accounts.

Specifically the cost of menstrual care products is now reimbursable. These products are defined as tampons, pads, liners, cups, sponges, or other similar products.”

How to Use Your HSA/FSA Benefits

  • Use your HSA/FSA debit card to complete your purchases

  • Save your receipt and use it as a reference when completing your tax forms

Things to Remember

Note that not all purchases are eligible for HSA/FSA benefits. Products such as bath bombs and yoni soaps are not qualified HSA/FSA purchases.

Your purchases will be documented on your receipt for easy referencing on your tax forms.
